军管型政区是一种特殊的地方行政区划类型，不是明代专有的现象，但历代类似性质的政区皆不如明代都司卫所制度之完善、严密及分布之广泛。卫所制度是在总结以前历代边疆行政管理制度与兵制的基础上产生的，是军事制度与地方行政管理制度在地理上相结合的产物。贵州都司既是一军事地理单元，又是一地方行政管理机构，对其卫所的分析是研究明代贵州的基础。

As a special king of Military Administrative Division in a ncient, Du-Si and Wei-Suo in Ming Dynasty were the most perfect, rigid and wide distribution. They were found on the geographical combination of the institution of administrative division in boundary and institution of military. Gui-Zhou Du -Si is not only a military geographical unit, but also an institution of adminis trative division. The research to Gui-Zhou Du-Si is the basis study of Gui-Zhou in Ming Dynasty.
