醛糖还原酶(aldose reductase,AR;alditol:NADP oxidoreductase,EC 1.1.1.21)以NADPH为辅酶催化醛糖的还原反应。已有证据表明,它在糖性白内障的形成过程中起着关键性的作用。因此寻找有效,低毒的醛糖还原酶抑制剂(aldose reductaseinhibitor,ARI)
Carthamidin.a component ofSentellaria harhata D.Don.was found to exhibit a marked inhibitory effect on lens aldose reductase(AR).The IC50 values of carthamidin for pig and rat lens AR were 6.2 and 4.9μmol·L-1 respectively.Lineweaver Burk plot demonstrated that the inhibition of pig lens AR was noncompetitive.
