Contrast Between English and Chinese Culturally-loaded Animal Words

Changes in the meaning of animal words are determined by culture of which the substantial content is in turn reflected by the cultural meanings. Many English and Chinese culturally-loaded animal words differ in meaning owing to different cultural content, tradition and psychology, and the meaning differences are likely to invoke errors in comprehension and expression. This paper contrasts and analyzes the following several aspects: the number of culturally-loaded animal words, of each kind of animals, and those polysemants, types of cultural meaning and the causes of all the above; and it also illustrates how to contrast and analyze different culturally-loaded animal words.
