This is the report of an investigation of the use of Putonghua among students of and graduates from the non normal colleges and universities in Henan Province. It probes into the reasons why they speak Putonghua and dialects alternatively. Further, it maintains that it is a pressing and feasible task to introduce the Putonghua proficiency test in these colleges and universities.
