The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is the most widely used protocol for the management of IP_based networks and internets.The original version ,now known as SNMPv1,is widely used.SNMPv2 adds functions to the original version but does not address its security limitations.An effort is currently underway to develop SNMPv3,which will add powerful privacy and authentication features.This article provides a survey of SNMP,including the discussion aout the way how to represent management information and the protocol functions.
