China′s reform in rural health service should be consistent with the globalgoal of achieving good health for all by the year 2000. In all parts of the countrythere will be by then efficient health service networks suited to local economyand having functions of security, service and market. The fundamental measuresfor this development are to transform the operational mechanisms and to readjustpolicies, the latter may be likened to catalyst of speeding up the reform of ruralhealth service. The article makes approaches to these fields of endeavour: mar-ket, service function and price, compensation, independent management power,fixed assets, and tertiary industries.
