A partially— hydrolyzed polyacrylamide(PHPA) mud system and an optimized drilling program was used to offset drilling problems encountered while drilling in the South China Sea include deviated holes. The angle of deviation in this wells was great as 63 degrees from vertical with most wells having angles in the mid —40 degrees.
