Abstract The advantages of asymmetric LOC structure to raise the COD threshold output optical power of laser have been analysed. The research results of A-LOC GaAlAs/GaAs laser show that the output optical power(cw) without coating is 85mW per facet; the threshold current ranges from 60 to 80mA;the differential quantum efficiency is 25% per facet and the device operated in fundamental transverse mode.
