Wild-type p53 gens is one of antioncogenes.It is very difficult to detect p53 protein byimmunohistochemical methods. Mutation of p53 gene results in overexpression of the protein.So detectable p53 protein by immunohistochemical methods may indicate the mutation of p53 gene.The monoclonal antibody PAb 240 which could recognize the special mutant epitope of p53 protein and couldn’t react with the normal p53 protein have been used in this lab toscreen the samples.Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC)and other head- neck tumor sampleswere obtained from patient in Guangxi Autonomous Region.Overexpression of p53 was foundin 7/20 NPC cases , 6/12 other head- neck tumors,and 5/5 metastatic lymphomas.The resultsdemonstrated that p53 gene has been mutated in NPC tissues and p53 gene may play an im-portant role in NPC pathogenesis.
