hree nasopharyngeal carcioma (NPC)cultured cell linnes CNE -1,CNE-2,CNE-3,and 5 biopsies of NPC,have been screened formutations at codon 249 of the p53 gene.Any changes to the second or third bases of codon 249 in exon 7 of the p53 gene result in the abolition of a restriction site for enzyme Hae Ⅲ.We have combined the polymerase chain reac-tion (PCR)with restriction analysis to study possuble mutations of this codon in our NPC samples.All our NPC samples were cleaved by Hae Ⅲ at codon 249 of p53 gene .None of the samples was found to have mutations at this position .It is necessary to study the changes at other positions of p53 gene in NPC tissues .
