2CO3 MgO+KOH or MgO+NaOH was used to modify NaX zeolite for ethanol condensation reaction. The new catalyst possessed moderate base strength showed much better performance for ethanol conversion to 1-butanol. Over (NaOH)0.4-10% MgO/NaX, the conversion ofethanol was 26. 4% and the selectivity for 1-butanol was 56.4% at T=400℃, W/F=5. 6 g. h. mol-1.
