中国鸟类种数普查沿革和展望──(为纪念动物分类学报创刊三十周年而作)

ON THE HISTORY OF CENSUS CONCERNING THE NUMBER OF SPECIES OF CHINESE BIRDS

本文追溯中国鸟类种数历来普查结果．初于明末李时珍的《本草纲目》（１５９６）提出约７７种。至清朝英国人Ｓｗｉｎｈｏｅ于１８６３年发表的第一篇中国鸟类分类名录．列举４５４种．嗣经百余年几次普查统计，现由本文加以总结，计得１，２４２种，与Ｓｗｉｎｈｏｅ的名录相较，种数的增加几乎达到三倍之多．

In dealing with bird census of Chinese birds, the paper traces back to 'Ben Cao Gang Mu' (1596, by Li Shi-Zhen), in which about 77 spedes were treated.In 1863. Swinhoe wrote the first checkist of Chinese birds, listing 454 species.Since then, there have been quite a number of publications on the birds of China,and the number of species of Chinese birds has steadily been on the in crease.In this paper, we give a total of l, 242, showing an increase of nearly three times,as compared with Swinhoe's total of 454 species.
