Self focusing rod is a kind of new optical material.The difference in optical parameter of such material will be risen due to the change of some factors in their technological process.So it is de-sired to measure and choose such material in advance according to the purpose of application.Then the calculation and fabrication are carried out with measured parameter value.In this paper a simplified test method is introduced,in which only the popular equipment is used and the test sample is easy to pre-pare.It can satisfy the general purpose of application.
