The U.S. military aviation industry is the most powerful in the world, it is also the nucleus of the U.S. defense industry . The end of the Cold War allows a major reduction in U.S. defense spending, the military aviation industry is now in an important time of transition . This article gives an assessment on its status based on a host of facts and figures, and presents a forecast on its trends in 10-15 years.First, it gave a briefing on the scale and the level of the aviation industry, and point out the consistent support from the government. Second, it discussed the U.S. government policies on maintaining the defense industry base such as 'prototype & lean production strategy'and their effect on the military aviation industry. Third, it gave the information on the Bottom-up Review which describes the U.S. forces structure for a new era and its great influence to the military aircraft industry. Then it presented a prospect on several prime contractors in air frame-manufacturing. A forecast is given on the U.S. military aircraft sales from 1993-1998 .
