Abstract Regional bone blood flow in the dog's mandible was measured by using the radioactive microsphere technique(RMT).Toad red blood cells were labelled with 51Cr,fixed in 10%formalin,and thus became a kind of microspheres whose density was quite similar to that of the dog's red blood cells. It was found that this kind of radioactive microspheres are fully up to the standards of microsphere technique,Their sizes are extremely uniform, and when used to measure the tissue blood flow, they serve as 15 μm carbonized microspheres. After being injected into systemic circulation through left atrial catheter, these microspheres have no distinct influences on physiological circulation of the animal.Microspheres were very evenly mixed with blood in the body, distributed to its every part proportionally to the blood flow rates, and were completely trapped in the capillaries and arterioles during the first circulation,The anthors thus suggest that 51Cr labelled toad red blood cells are an ideal marker for the measurement of regional bone blood flowin the dog's mandible.
