The multi-element field belongs to a Q-type classification method. It can treat the geochemical prospecting samples with a multivariate characters and is an effective calculation method. However, it is not widely used to classify and explain regional geological prospecting samples in Nanjing and Zhenjiang area. Two calculations by the multi-element field method were used to obtain two classified results. The calculation and application show that the method has some advantages: it is suitable for the classification of samples and understanding of known ore deposits in the area and can compare to sample classification of unknown area with that of known area. The valuable prospecting target regions are put forward. Combining with geophysical prospecting data,the geological condition and prospecting vistas in a certain region have been explained according to the classification calculation by the multi-element field method, NO. Ⅹ, Ⅺ, Ⅻ, and Ⅹ Ⅳ types in the classification results are important to the metallogenic prognosis and they are respectively valuable regions where Qixiashan-type, Anjishan-type, Funiushan-Tongshan type, Laorenfeng-type and Tangshan type ore deposits are found out.
