The free fractional degree, refers to a ratio of the monomeric content of measured minerals and its total amount, is a important concept in the separation process. Owing to the wrong understanding to its essence, there are different and mistaken operations in the practical calculation.The author rises a new concept of calculating cumulative free fractional degree for the multigrade samples in accordance with the applied experiment and distribution and changes of mineral size. The mineral amount can be expressed by the grade both chemical and phase analysises. Taken siderite and barite for example, new formula's application is showed to further understanding to the theory meaning of the free fractional degree and has a higher accuracy. On the standardization of the free fractional degree, it is firstly done to draw up a uniform standard of main industrial ores such as copper, lead and zinc and so on; The interlocking crystals with a ratio 1/8, 2/8, 4/8, 6/8, 7/8, 8/8 can be determined by the special methods; The measured lower limit to the free fractional degree of separated fine polymetal sulfate ores could be referred to -320 screen.Through a closely exchange between the rock and mineral and benefication technicians, the value of free fractional degree could be measured accurately and rationally.
