AbstractThree new species and one new record of biting midges collected from southernTibet are described and summarized. The type specimens are deposited in Department of Parasitology, Second Military Medical University, Shanghai, and Instituteof Military Medical Sciences, Chengdu respectively.1. Culicoides longirostris Qu et Wang, sp. nov. (fig. 1)The new species is closely allied to Culicoides brinchangensis Wirth et Hubert, but differs in the following features: (1) the P/H ratio of females are larger; (2)hindtibial comb with 5 spines; (3) male genitalia of ninth sternum with a deep ca-udomedian excavation, aedeagus with a sclerotized hasal bar, and the distal endingof parameres without apical hairs.Holotype and allotype collected from Tibet: Yadong County (downtown,2950m, light trap, June 5, 1989). Paratypes 8 2 collected from Tibet: YadongCounty (downtown, 2950m, light trap, June 5, 1989, 1 1 ; June 6, 1989, 2 1 );Lang County (Bang-qi, 2650m, light trap, July 26, 1989, 5 ).2. Culicoides margipictus Qu et Wang, sp. nov. (fig. 2)The new species would belong to the odibilis group, its morphology similar tothat Culicoides clastcrieri Callot, Kremer et Deduit, but the latter species with 5post-pharyngeal teeth, while none in new species. The wing patterns of Culicoides verbosus Tokunaga and Culicoides lini Kitaokaet Tanaka also resembling with the new species, it can be distinguished from theformer by its larger size and with sensoria present in antennal segments III, XI-XV,and differs from the latter species by its eyes without interfacetal hairs.Holotype , collected from Tibet: Cona County (Semu, 3150m, light trap, July15, 1989). Paratype , collect data same as holotype.3. Calicoides spinoverbosus Qu et Wang, sp. nov. (fig. 3)The wing pattern of new species is very similar to Culicoides verbosus Tokun-aga and Culicoides taiwanensis Kitaoka et Tanaka, but it can be distinguished chi-efly by the characters of the antennal ratio, sensoria distribution, numbers of mand-ible teeth, numbers of hind tibial comb spine, and male genitalia. Specially, thecibarial armature of the new species presence of a patch of dark blunt spinules (ap-proximately 40 in female and 24 in male) is quite difference between the alliedspecies.Holotype collected from Tibet: Cona County (Le, 2500m, light trap, July11, 1989). Allotype collect data same as the holotype.4. Culicoides raras Das Gupta, 1963 (fig. 4)The present species only known from type locality--Nayabazar, West Sikkim, itconsidered as a new record of China. There are 3 females and 2 males has beencollected from Tibet: Cona County (Le, 2500m, light trap, July 11, 1989, 2 2 )and Lang County (Bang-qi, 2650m, light trap, July 26, 1989, 1 ). The descrip-tion of males hitherto unknown are present. The morphology of present species resembles that of Culicoides charadraeusArnaud, 1956, but the sensoria present in female antennal segment and the maleaedeagus are quite differente.
