The application of the rigid on-line models(ROMs) on the crude unit in an American refinery were intro-duced. Software and hardware, configurations, data streams as well as various functions of the ROMs were described. Combined with practical operations, experience and benefits achieved by adopting them in the maintenance, operating, planning, management and design of the crude unit were introduced in detail.
