Abstract By Bliss method, Strychnine (S) and Brucine (B), principal compositions in seed of Strychnos nux-vomica, were compared with Strychnine N -oxide (SNO ) and Brucine N - oxide (BNO ), the derivations of S and B. The test was done on mice. Results: S: 1. 104mg/Kg ; SNO: 10. 92mg/Kg;B: 50. 10mg/Kg; BNO: 776. 7mg/Kg. The toxicity of S was about ten times that of its N - oxide chemical compound and Bwas about fifteen times. In processing the seed of Strychnos nux -vomica withchinese traditional method, Strychnine and Brucine changed into their N-oxide chemical compounds to some extent. It led to the decrease in toxicity of products of strychnos nux-vomica.
