珠江防洪 亟待加强——西、北江“ 94.6”大洪水灾后反思

Flood Control of Pearl River Valley Needs To Be Strengthened Urgently——Self-examination after the Catastrophic Flood on West and North Rivers

1994年6月中旬,珠江流域西、北两江同时发生建国以来最大洪水,波及广西、广东沿江120多个市、县,造成近300亿元惨重的经济损失,直接威胁广州市和珠江三角洲等经济发达的地区。洪灾后反思,痛定思痛,深感对珠江洪水及其危害要有足够的认识,要提高水患意识,总结经验教训,加强防范。

In mid June, 1994, a catastrophic flood which has been the biggest one since the founding of the People's Republic of China occurred simultaneously on the West and North rivers in the Pearl River Valley, affecting more than 120 cities and counties in Guangdong and Guangxi. The flood threatened directly the economically developed areas such as Guangzhou City and Pearl River Delta, causing economic losses up to 30 billion yuan. After the flooding, having recalled the bitter experience, we fully realize that we should heighten our consciousness of flood disaster to strengthen the flood prevention measures.
