In the last thirty years, the achievements in the development of aluminum alloy have brought about remarkable improvements in commercial aeroplane of subsonic speed and supersonic speed. A futher development of Al-alloy will be confronted with the challenge to the growing requirements both in improvemeat of the constructive characters of materials and in enhancement of economical benefit and cycle life. A historical reveiw of alloy used in compressive chief-structure is made in this paper, in the mean time,the high strength Al-alloy 7055 of 7×××series and a new Al-alloy 2××× recently developed by Alcoa are also introduced. The achievements of development of current Al-alloys used for subsonic and supersonic aeroplane are discussed.
