his paper presents the current status of saline water intrusion into the coastal zone of Laizhuo Gulf, Shandong province.The mechanism of saline water intrusion,its effects on terrestrial e-cosystem,and its control strategy are diseussed.The results indicate that anthropogenic distur-bance is the major factor causing the problem,and therefore,the first approach to control water intrusion is to focus on adjusting human activities,including management of regional water re-sources, rational control of industrial,agricultural and municipal water uses.The most efficient way is to practise water-efficient agriculture and eco-agriculture.
