Abstract Holland is the largest flower producing country in the world, famous for thetremendous amount and hish quality of flowers in the world. The flower export in theworld in 1987 was worth 4 billion US dollars , of which 2 billion was shared by Holfand.The reason that Holland could have strons competitiveness in the world flower market isnot solely due to the lons history of flower culture,but rather due to the advanced fiower production tcchnique and scientific management methods. T he author describes thehistorical development and present status of commercialization of Holland flowers, theflower produeing technique and methods of flower management, the auction market, fl-ower asencies, the optional purchase center, severe flower quarantine and supervisionsystem, flower variety improvement, scientific research, education and extension serviceand the marketing of flowers.
