邓小平作为改革开放总设计师,对十三届四中全会以来我国社会发展作出了历史性贡献。他对世纪之交世界格局作出了科学的判断,提出了正确的外交战略方针;他强调解放思想、实事求是,不断坚持理论创新;他反复强调必须始终坚持党的基本路线不动摇;他围绕“什么是社会主义、怎样建设社会主义”这一首要的、基本的理论问题进行了全面阐述;他致力维护以江泽民为核心的第三代中央领导集体。这就为十三届四中全会以来我国社会发展争取了和平的国际环境,奠定了思想基础和政治基础,提供了直接的理论指导和强有力的组织保障。

Deng Xiaoping,the leading designer of the reform and opening up policy in China,made great contribution to the development of our country since the 4th Plenary Session of the 13th Central Committee of the CPC.He judged the global situation correctly,put forward correct foreign policy,stressed the importance of freeing oneself from old ideas,being practical and realistic and bringing forth new theory.He said repeatedly that the basic rules of the CPC must be stuck to,expounded in an overall way “What socialism is and how to build socialism”.He also tried his best to support and uphold the 3rd generation of the leaders,who laid the thought and political base and (provided) theory and safeguarded the organization for the development of our country since the 4th Plenary Session of the 13th Central Committee.
