意象与艺术

Imagery and Art

“意象”即“表意之象”。它通过“象征”或“浪漫”的手法 ,实现“立象以尽意”之目的。故意象又有“象征意象”和“浪漫意象”之区别。象征意象在于暗示 ,浪漫意象在于表现。相对而言 ,西方艺术偏于象征和暗示 ,中国艺术偏于浪漫和表现。象征意象和浪漫意象是两种不同艺术形态之反映 ,它们均为“表意之象”,即“意象”。

Imagery is a meaning-oriented image. It achieves the effect of expressive images with the device of symbolism or romance. Hence the two different imageries: metaphoric and romantic. The former is implicative whereas the latter expressive. Comparatively speaking, Western art gives more weight to symbolism and implication while Chinese art is more romantic and expressive. Both metaphoric and romantic imageries represent two different artistic forms; they share the same meaning-oriented image, i.e. imagery, though.
