The forming of national unity is an interesting topic full of practical significance. The paper discusses the status of geographic environment in the forming of Chinese national unity from the slant of historical geography. It asserts that favourable natural environment makes the material connerstone of Chinese long-flourishing national unity; close geographic environment is the motive power promoting the commonization of Chinese cultures; the frequently-varying unusual weather and the clear Grand Canal are the outer factors developing the strong national unity; and the continuous southward movement of northern minorities offered rich catalyst and nourishment for the strengthering of national unity.
