Everlasting Hell——On the Death of Xianglinsao

对祥林嫂悲剧的内涵作出重新的解释 ,指出祥林嫂之死的原因 :其一是礼教各条律之间的内在矛盾 ,是族权与夫权之间的相悖 ;其二是愚昧大众们“看客”的凶眼 ,通过“心理暗示”的作用使祥林嫂产生犯罪感 ,自我心灵折磨以致跨入地狱之门。“五四”时期控诉“吃人礼教”的作品汗牛充栋 ,鲁迅控诉的深刻性在于不是浮面地指出礼教吃人 ,而是尖锐地指出遵从了礼教的条律规范 。

This article gives a new explanation of the tragedy of Xianglinsao,a character created by Lu Xun. The popular critical belief in the cause of her death is that it results from four chains of the feudal ethical code. The article points out further that as to her death,one of the two reasons is the integral conflict among the rules of the feudal ethical code,that is the conflict between the rights of the clan and the rights of the husband. The other reason is the cruel expression of the unwisdom on lookers′eyes,which makes Xianglinsao feel guilty by psychological hint,toruring herself in the soul,and then entering the gate of the hell. There were an immense number of books that charged the cannibalistic ethics of feudal society in the course of the May 4 Movement of 1919. The profundity of Lu Xun′s works lies in that he not only superficially explained that the feudal ethical code would destroy man′s life,but sharply demonstrated that the same thing would happen even if the code was obeyed.
