摘要
本文在简述了当前流行的数据压缩技术原理后．重点介绍ＭＳＤＯＳ微机和Ｕｎｉｘ工作站使用的ＬＺＷ（Ｌｅｎｐｅｌ—Ｚｉｖ—Ｗｅｌｃｈ）压缩算法和相应的软件、它们的实际压缩效果及适用范围。最后在面临新的学科──数据压缩学已经形成的形势下，论述它的研究动向及展望。
Described the technical principle of the text-datacompressions that are popularity, this paper highlightsto introduce the compreession algorithm of LZW andits software, which has been used by MSDOS of themicrocomputer and Unix of the workstation, its compression efficiency and the application limit. Finally,the research foreground is so described that counteresthis tendency when the 'data compressology' hasgrown up.
