梅光达是澳大利亚著名的华侨侨领和富商。他加入澳国国籍后, 对自己的祖国和人民, 对在澳洲谋生的骨肉同胞, 始终怀有深厚的故土情结。他先后三次回国探亲、考察商务、拜见清朝官员, 并在澳国竭力维护侨胞的合法权益, 是杰出的中国人民的儿子。

Mei Daguang was a famous Chinese leader and rich merchant in Australia. After obtaining his Australian citizenship, his deep feelings towards Chinese seeking their fortunes in Australia and towards his native land remained unchanged. He returned to China three times to visit relatives and friends, make business tours and visit with Qing officials. He tried his best to protect the rights of Chinese in Australia. He was an outstanding son of the Chinese nation.
