Power and Politics in Daily Life, An Observation on Clan Temple Refurnishing in Xia Tang Village

无论是国家的进入或退出,抑或是宗族的复兴或消亡,在理解乡村政治的过程中,作者强调以乡村日常生活为分析起点,通过观察日常生活中的小事件,还原事件中的权力真相。作者还认为,乡村政治就是国家政治的一部分,乡村政治既是精英政治,更是生活的政治,是实践中的政治;了解农村政治必须要有充分的"现场"意识,进行更多"深度描写"。

In understanding village politics, the roles of state and religion may be important, but this author wants to shift the spotlight to daily life itself. Through analysis of a small event taking place in a village, this author tries to bring out the power structure that operates behind it. This author holds that village politics is not limited to the elites. More importantly, it is politics of life and of daily practices. Therefore, those who want to understand rural politics should have a strong sense of 'going back to the spot' and digging beneath the surface of crude facts for deeper insight.
