St. Augustine’s esthetic theories played an important role in the history of the esthetics. This thesis mainly explores Augustine's elaboration on the essence of beauty, the distinguishing characteristics of beauty, art and beauty as well as the mission of art etc, holding the view that his opinions both surpassed other ancestors and had effect on the later ages greatly. Therefore, studying Augustine’s theories on esthetics is significant for us to learn about the esthetics in the Medial Ages and the development of the esthetic history in Europe and America.
