The concept,features,basic structure and types of artificial neural network(ANN) were briefly introduced,and the application of ANN in environmental science,optimum setting of environmental monitoring sites,assessment of atmosphere environmental quality and assessment of water environmental quality in our country were summarized,and the deficiencies and the development tendency of ANN application were presented.
