大学精神应该包含开放兼容、求真务实、以人为本、民主公正、与时俱进、开拓创新等等内容。它具有文化的创造性、功能的先进性、管理的民主性及社会教育性等特征。大学精神体现着一个时代的文化精神,在这个时代的文化精神中居于引导和统领的地位。任何时代的文化精神,都离不开对文化传统的继承,这种历史继承性决定了必须对传统的文化理念、文化意识、文化心理等进行整合、梳理和吸收。我们对传统文化理念的追溯,不是为了复古,而是要古为今用,为构建现代大学精神奠定稳固的基石。

University spirit should include opening up, compatibility, truth-seeking, personalization, democracy, equality, keeping pace with the times, making innovations in a pioneering spirit and so on. It has such properties as cultural creativity, fuctional progressireness, and administrative democratization and social education. This spirit reflects the cultural spirit of a time and takes the leading position in the cultural spirit of the times. Cultural spirit in any times can not go without the inherit of cultural tradition. This historical inherit includes analysis and absorption of the traditional cultural thought, cultural consciousness and cultural mentality. The purpose of researching traditional cultural notion is to make use of old things in modern times as well as to lay a solid foundation for constructing modern university spirit.
