An Analysis of the Historical Background of the Establishment of Anglo-Japanese Alliance

日英同盟的成立在国际关系中绝非偶然,有其深刻历史背景。从日本来讲,是其资本主义政治、经济发展不平衡导致日本军国主义形成及对外扩张的必然结果。从英国来讲,则是英国面临其他资本主义国家 (法国、德国、俄国)的挑战,为维护其在东北亚的利益做出的无奈选择。

Based on the theories of international relations such as balance of power, national profit, geopolitics, etc, this article try to discourse upon roundly the historical background of the coming into existence of Anglo-Japanese Alliance using the method of global viewpoint of history. Instead of haphazard in the history of international relation, the establishment of Anglo-Japanese Alliance has profound historical context. As to Japan, it is an inevitable result of the unbalance of the development both politically and economically, which lead to the formation of Militarism and external expansion. As to UK, it is a 'no other choice' when it faced challenges from other capitalist countries (French, Germany &Russia) and protected its own advantages in Northeast Asia.
