"垮掉一代"的精神并不像字面意义揭示的那么简单,从社会文化背景、精神和文化渊源、美国文学传统三个方面探索"垮掉一代"的精神实质,突出其精神中反传统反体制,追求自我和自由的积极因素。

The spirit of the Beat Generation is not as simple as the words reveal. The paper trys to probe into the essence of the spirit of the Beat Generation from three aspects: the social and cultural background; the source of their spirit and thought; the tradition of American literature. So the positive elements of the Beat Generation, such as opposing tradition and system, seeking oneself and freedom, are manifested.
