On Chen Ping

陈平是汉初杰出的政治家、谋略家,在亡秦灭楚、建立汉朝的过程中扮演了一个重要的谋士角色。汉高祖刘邦去世后,他又韬光养晦,力撑危局,主谋诛灭吕氏外戚,维护了汉初的统一局面。陈平关于丞相职责的认识,透露出分工负责、各司其职的管理思想,对后世影响深远。但是,由于周勃、灌婴的诬陷,陈平却一直背负“盗嫂”的恶名,验之历史文献,“盗嫂”纯属不实之词。

Chen Ping, an outstanding statesman and strategist in the beginning period of the Han Dynasty, played an important role as a counselor in the process of annihilating Qin and Chu and establishing Han Dynasty. While hiding his talent and biding his time after the death of the first emperor of Han Dynasty, Liu Bang, Chen Ping helped Han Dynasty to go through the hard times, and played a leading role in planning to eliminate Empress Lü and her relatives in the court, therefore, maintained the unified situation. His understanding of the duties of the position of prime ministers revealed the management thoughts of dividing up tasks and taking respective responsibilities, which had a long lasting influence on later dynasties. However, being framed by Zhou Bo and Guan Ying, Chen Ping had been having the bad reputation of having sex with his brother's wife, which evidence proves not to be the fact.
