The reaction and the mechanism for benzyl chlorides with sulfur under Co_2(CO)_8 is reported. Dibenzylsulfides and dibenzyldisulfides are obtained by the phase transfer catalysed reaction of benzylchioride with sulfur in the presence of catalytic amounts of cobalt earbonyl complexes. The reactionmechanism is briefly discussed.
