鲤鱼Cyprinus carpio Linnasus是我国重要的经济鱼类，在淡水渔业产量上一向占很大的比重。根据梁子湖的渔业情况，它约占梁子湖鱼产量的40％；就全国范围来讲，其经济价值之大，可以想见。但是关于鲤鱼在我国天然水体中的生长情况，生活习性等问题，过去研究得很少，因此，1955年2月至1956年3月我们在梁子湖进行了鲤鱼的生态调查，
Biological investigation was made on Cyprinus capio with reference to age and growth, spawning habit, intestinal contents, obeseness and embryonic development. Growth rates for either sex of the carp from the yearlings to the 5 years old individuals are given. One fenale which 9 annual-rings on her scale attained a body-length of 81 cm; total weight with 12.8 kg. Six maturation stages of ovary were described. The gonads arrived at its maturation stage when the male and the femal grew up to 20 cm and 24 cm in total length respectively. The breeding season of carp in Liang-tze lake is from April to June. No spawning occurs at water temperature below 18℃. Hatching of the larval fish from artificially fertilized eggs. takes place about 53 hrs. at the water-temperature of 20.5—24.6℃. after fertilization. Examinations of intestinal contents show that the fry feeds solely on zooplankton as soon as it starts feeding; the adult is omnivorous and more animals than vegetable stuff are present in the diet. The obeseness of the carp is closely related to the conditions of feeding the reproduction and the water temperature. Discussion is also made on the improvement of the natural productivity of the fish in Liang-Tze Lake.
