联合国教科文组织(UNESCO)、国际海洋考察理事会(ICES)、海洋研究科学委员会(SCOR)和国际海洋物理学协会(IAPSO)及其所属“海洋学常用表和标准联合专家小组(JPOTS)”已正式提出并通过了1978年实用盐标(PSS78)和1980年新的国际海水状态方程及其用表，同时已联合发出通告，要求世界所有海洋工作者自1982年1月1日起，在海洋调查和研究报告中一律使用新盐标、新方程和新的用表。
A series of very low salinity seawaters with salinity between 0.152-2. 520 were made from weight diluted the reference standard seawater with free from ion water. The relative conductivities of these seawater were measured by recquipped WD-1 type electrode laboratory salinometer at 10, 15, 30℃ and room temperature 20℃ approximately. These data of salinities obtained from practical salinity equation were compared with those from an diluted equation. The average deviation of both series of data are about±0.002 S, so that the pratical salinity equation may be extended application to extent of lower salinities, and it is an evident that the practical salinity equa tion may be used for the determination of seawaters with very low salinity in estuaries. Also, Our work provided the evidence for the practical salinity equation using for determination of seawater with very low salinity in the arctic regions.
