西欧中世纪盛期出现了一股兴建修女院的热潮,涌现出不同的修道派别,新出现的女性修道团体是中世纪盛期特定的社会经济、宗教环境的产物,呈现出跟以往不同的特征。女性出于追寻个人宗教理想的愿望或是迫于现实环境的压力而源源不断地进入修女院,从而在僧侣阶层中占有一席之地。

During the high middle ages came the up surge of founding nunneries in western europe,Which was the product of the periodic social economy and the religious environment.It appeared various characters unlike before.Due to the satisfying of the personal religious desire or the pressure of the social reaUty,numerous women became nuns and plaved a role in the monasdcinstitution.
