On “ま”—— an analysis of semantic cohesion

通过讨论日语语素“マ”各种语义间的转变途径及其用法,说明这些含义都是从一个最基本的空间概念扩展开来的。分析“マ”和另一个语素“アイダ(也写成“間”)”之间的意义以及用法差别可知,在分析日语的语素时必须摆脱汉字的误导。

This paper discusses the meaning chain between various meanings of the Japanese morpheme “ma”, trying to explain that all the meanings can be drawn from the elementary scheme about the space. The paper also shows the misleading of the Kanji——Chinese character used in Japanese morpheme analogues by comparing the difference of “ma” and “aida”(both written in the same character).
