１９９３年中国乙烯自给率约５４％。预计２０００年中间乙烯需求量约５４０万ｔ。本文介绍了作者对２０００年乙烯工业砚划的意见，认为“九五”期间宜在华东再安排１～２套大型乙烯工程。
