Some Thoughts on the Splitting and Transformation of China's Social Structure

中国社会的工业化、城市化和市场化转型在一定程度上促成和深化了中国社会的分化与断裂趋势。但是 ,优化社会结构、保持社会稳定不能寄希望于中产阶级。中国社会结构的第一个历史性转变将是市民化或工人阶级化 ,第二个历史性转变才会是中产阶级化。目前及今后数十年的主要任务是推动第一个转变早日实现。

China's industrialization, urbanization and market economy have fostered and deepened the splitting as well as breakage of China's social structure. The middle_class, however, cannot be the pillar of social optimization and stability. What marks the first historical transformation in China's social structure shall be citizenization or workmanization, then followed by the popularization of middle class as the second. Therefore, the major task at present and decades later is to promote the first transformation to come true as early as possible.
