Principle of Relevance and Optimal Thinking: Explorations into and Questions about Relevance Theory

本文从人与语言的技术关系和人与人的社会关系两个维度讨论关联理论,论述了关联理论对语用学研究的贡献,也提出一些问题。全文分五部分,除结束语外,依次讨论了如下几个方面的问题:分析关联原则同优化思维的关系,对关联原则同合作原则进行比较,说明关联理论在研究方法上对语用学研究的贡献和试图说明在交际过程中可能存在的关联性期待的不对称性。

This paper discusses Relevance Theory within the framework of two dimensions: the dimension of the technical relation of man and language, and that of social relations between man and man, laying emphasis on the contributions made to the pragmatic studies and at the same time raising some questions. The paper falls into five sections, which investigate respectively the relation between Principle of Relevance (PR) and optimal thinking, the comparison between PR and CP, the contributions made by Relevance Theory to pragmatic studies with respect to the scientific research methods, and the question of the possible asymmetry of the expectation of relevance.
