Language Globalization:Unification and Pluralization

本文重点探讨了语言全球化问题,指出在交际与思维两个层次上的语言全球化特征,并且分析了语言全球化与经济全球化、文化全球化之间的关系。全文分为三个部分。第一部分主要区分了经济全球化与文化全球化这两个概念中的“全球化”含义的不同;第二部分则揭示了在交际层面上与全球经济一体化过程紧密相连的英语全球化问题,在思维层面上与文化全球化息息相关的语言思维的全球化问题;第三部分从语言与文化的关系入手,探寻了由自然思维转向语言思维对全球文化多元化格局的影响。

This paper focuses on the issue of language globalization, the features of which are speculated on the levels of communication and thinking. The inner connection of language globalization with the economic and cultural globalization is clarified through three parts. Part One presents the conceptual distinction of 'globalization' implied between economic globalization and cultural globalization. Part Two comprises topics regarding the globalization of English language considered closely with global economic unification on the communicative level, and that of language thinking perceived inseparably from global cultural pluralization on the thinking level. Finally, in Part Three, the author takes a broad view at the linguistic turn and its impact upon the globalization of culture.
