Probing into Reasons that Resulted in Various Editions but the Same Book

古籍的制作和传播方式是同异本现象产生的必然原因,而诸如文字本身的差异、誊抄副本的传统、剽窃作伪的行为、佛经的翻译和流传、历代书厄、学术论争、名讳及时政的规避等其他各种社会因素,亦是同书异本产生的重要诱因。它们交互作用,共同营造了版本学生存和发展的社会土壤。

The paper argues that the rise of various editions but the same book was evitable according to the producing and diffusing method of ancient books. And more, there were so many social factors that caused various editions but the same book, such as different letters, making a clear copy, plagiarizing and faking, translation of sutra, book dooms in past dynasties, academic controversy, taboos, evading political situation, and so on. All these factors were interlacing with each other and promoted the rise of various editions but the same book, providing the ultimate promotion for the establishment of Textual Bibliography.
