摘要
在具有伟大历史意义的中国共产党第十三次全国代表大会所确定的建设有中国特色的社会主义纲领中,突出地把发展科学技术和教育事业放在首要位置,并且强调指出:教育事业从根本上说,是科技发展,经济振兴,乃至整个社会进步的根本。图书馆学教育是教育事业的组成部分,它是为科学技术、文化教育、国民经济各部门培养输送图书馆专业人才的摇篮。
Libraries belong to the information industry.A high-developed information society must have acorresponding library system,and an appropriate library science education must be developed too.According to the statistic,70% of the American workforce is engaged in information-relatedactivities.60% of the professionals who have gotten the library science academie degraes serve forenterprises′ information divisions,only 20% of the professionals who have gotten the libraryscience academic degrees work in libraries.At the same time,many non-library science specilitiesdevelop the courses in library and information science to strength the competitive abilities in em-ployment.According to an investigation to 71 non-library science specilities(among them there are36 computer science,18 pedagogy,8 engineering science and 2 communication science etc.)of 39states in the USA,22 library science courses have been developed.In the view of development inChina,the competitive mechanism must be introduced into the library science which will providedeep-processed information products to serve for the information markets.In order to meet all sortof information needs and requirements,it should become public information sterage and service centers.For suiting this situation,the library science education in China must be reformed struc-turally;the knowledge should be oriented mainly to the developing and using of informationresource;and the jobs should be oriented to the needs of the great markets of information society.Thus we can speed up the socialization of library and information science education,and the qualifiedlibraries and information scientists will permeate various professions in the information society.
