摘要
14世纪英语宗教诗歌《忍耐》用《旧约》中先知约拿的故事说明“忍耐”的必要性 ,它讲述的不仅是人和上帝的关系 ,也是人和社会的关系。该诗直接宣讲圣经故事 ,进行道德说教 ,同时强调世俗生活智慧 ,具有世俗化倾向。从本质上说 ,约拿对上帝的疑虑 ,是诗人自己对上帝的疑虑 ,也是 14世纪听众对上帝的疑虑。
Patience″ uses the story of Jonah to show the need for p atie nce and it deals with the relationship between man and God and also that between man and society. The poem preaches religious beliefs and at the same time stresses secular wisdom for dealing with God, revealing the poet's misgivings about God, which were sha red by the audience in the 14th century.
