性人类学主要针对部落社会以及其他技术不发达的非西方文化中的性实践进行系统的描述和分析 ,关注的主要是生物的、心理的因素和产生性爱冲动、性吸引以及某种特定性行为的文化因素之间的互动关系。马林诺夫斯基是性人类学研究的第一位大师 ,他对异域社会性实践的田野考察建构了一种文化差异 ,为的是让人们找到反省本土文化的机会 。

The value of anthropology of sex lies in the fact that it describes and analyses different kinds of sexual practices of ethnic groups in tribe society as well as other undeveloped non-western cultures and makes anthropology actually the category of human sex research. Study on anthropology of sex practiced by many famous scholars, they paid more attentions to the mutual relations among the biological, psychological and cultural factors of human sexual behavior. As the first great master of anthropology of sex, Bronislaw Malinowski investigated the sexual life of savages in North-Western Melanesia. The anthropological studies of sex are regarded to build a kind of cultural difference. So people can find the opportunity of self-examination and make constructive self-criticism, then throw away those outmoded ideas.
